Eligibility: The HF Challenge is open to CDXC members world-wide but Awards (Trophies, Salvers and Certificates) are only available to those who are fully paid up members of CDXC for the full duration of the Challenge. The HF Challenge is an individual operator competition.  Where an operator has multiple call signs, contacts with all call signs may be combined, but only if all of the call signs are used for single operator operation.  Call signs used or linked with multi-operator contest entries or multi-operator Special Event Call signs are not eligible for awards. Robot generated QSOs are not considered to be within the spirit of the CDXC Challenges and should not be used on any mode. Perpetrators will be investigated and face disqualification. Self-spotting on any cluster is not considered to be within the spirit of the CDXC Challenges and should not be used on any mode. Perpetrators will be investigated and face disqualification.
Scoring: Each DXCC entity worked is counted once only, regardless of how many bands or how many modes that entity is worked on.  The object is to work as many DXCC entities as possible.  In the event of a tie based on DXCC entities, the higher score by Band-Slots will win.
Log entry: Via upload to Club Log and electing to enter the HF Challenge on the Club Log website. Regular uploading of your log during the month is encouraged – registration and at least one upload must be made by 15th September and once per week is preferred – as this helps to drive the Challenge and provides a spectator sport for all to see.  (If you are not QRV until after 15th September but would still like to take part, please send an email to the Awards Manager.)E-mailed or paper logs will NOT be accepted. To assist with adjudication, all entrants are encouraged to upload their log to LoTW and to do so within a week of the end of the Challenge.Trophies and Salvers will only be awarded to those who have uploaded their log to LoTW within three weeks of the end of the Challenge.
Log Verification: No QSLs are required, but in the event of a question the CDXC committee may request verification via other means.  By entering, participants agree that their Club Log entries may be viewed and queried by adjudicators and that decisions made by the adjudicators will be final.
Closing date: All logs must be uploaded to Club Log by 23:59 on 5th October following the Challenge period. Any uploads after this date will not be taken into consideration.

CDXC HF Challenge 2024

The 2024 HF Challenge saw a slight drop in the number of DXCC being worked but quite a big increase in the amount of QSOs being made, this year a total of 50,916 Qs were made and out of those 41,370 was using MGM, 2,730 using CW and 6,816 using SSB. Compared to last year MGM and SSB was up and CW had dropped. Still some good DX worked in all of the modes.

It is worth reminding members that there three conditions that all need to be satisfied if you are to win a Trophy, Salver or Certificate. These are clearly stated in the rules and are: (i) be a fully paid up member of CDXC for the duration of the respective Challenge; (ii) upload to Club Log and LoTW as per the Challenge rules (different dates apply) and (iii) not have won the Trophy in question in the preceding three years

Where this is the case we have annotated the results with an asterisk. It often means the outright winner does not receive the Trophy. We will be a bit more lenient and provide certificates in such cases.

For CW, Lionel, G5LP* topped the table again this year with 129 DXCC followed by Paul G4PVM with 83 and Nathan KF9LI with 44. Per the eligibility criteria above, the Hinson (CW) Trophy 2024 goes to Paul G4PVM

For SSB, Norman, 5B4AIF* topped the table again with 112 DXCC followed by Stephen, G7BXU* with 57 and Robert, G4TUK with 56. Per the eligibility criteria above, the CDXC Trophy (SSB) 2024 goes to Robert, G4TUK

For MGM, Norman, 5B4AIF topped the table with 174 DXCC followed by Andrey, 5B4AMX with 168 then Lionel, G5LP with 166. Per the eligibility criteria above, the Chairman’s Cup (MGM) 2024 goes to Norman, 5B4AIF

The winner of the 15m Salver was  Lionel, G5LP with 154 DXCC, second was Norman, 5B4AIF with 144 and joint third was Andrey, 5B4AMX and Paul, G0KPH tied on 114 DXCC.

The overall winner for 12m and awarded the Salver is Norman, 5B4AIF with 138 DXCC, second was Lionel, G5LP with 127 and third was Tim, M0BEW with 100 DXCC.

The 10m Salver winner was Norman, 5B4AIF with 164 DXCC, second was Andrey, 5B4AMX with 156 DXCC and in third was Lionel, G5LP with 148.

The overall winner for 6m was Norman, 5B4AIF with total of 45 DXCC, second place this year went to Kev, G0CHE with 42,  Andrey, 5B4AMX was third with 36.

Another great HF Challenge this year with plenty of DX being worked across all bands and modes. Many Congratulations to all the winners, Trophies, Salvers and Certificates will be sent out in due course.

As always we are very grateful to Michael, G7VJR from Club Log for making the CDXC awards programme possible every year.

CDXC HF Challenge 2023

Another great HF Challenge with plenty of DX being worked across all bands and modes with some very close results.

The 2023 HF Challenge saw a change to the award categories: in previous years the Hinson Trophy was awarded for the most DXCC worked using traditional modes (SSB/CW) this year it was decided to separate the two modes and now the Hinson Trophy is for the most DXCC worked on CW and a new Trophy will be awarded for the most DXCC worked on SSB. The Chairman’s Cup remains the same for most DXCC worked using MGM.

The Hinson Trophy was extremely close this year with Lionel G5LP and John GM0OPS both finishing on 123 DXCC on CW and only 10 slots separated the two. Lionel G5LP came out on top with 123 DXCC/236 slots and wins the Hinson Trophy. John GM0OPS finished second on 123 DXCC/226 slots. Paul G4PVM finished in third with 91 DXCC.

The TBD Trophy was won by Norman 5B4AIF with 112 DXCC worked on SSB, followed by David MW0CRI in second with 82 and Robert G4TUK in third with 67.

The Chairman’s Cup for most DXCC worked using MGM was close this year with Steve PJ4DX coming first with 183 followed in second by John GM0OPS who worked 179. Just two behind in third place with 177 DXCC was Trevor EI2GLB.

The winner of the 15m Salver was John GM0OPS with 172, certificates will be awarded to Steve PJ4DX and Norman 5B4AIF who came joint second place on 158.

The overall winner for 12m and awarded the Salver is Steve PJ4DX with 147, close behind in second was Norman 5B4AIF with 143 and John GM0OPS in third with 137 both receiving certificates.

The 10m Salver winner was Norman 5B4AIF with 169, with certificates going to Andrey 5B4AMX who came second with 162 and John GM0OPS who came in third with 145.

The overall winner for 6m was Andrey 5B4AMX who receives the Salver with 45, Norman 5B4AIF and Kev G0CHE both finished joint second with 41 DXCC.

A total of 32,507 QSOs were made in the 2023 HF Challenge with 24,723 being worked on MGM, 4,701 on CW and 3,083 on SSB. Despite this lean towards MGM modes, there was still plenty of DX to be worked on CW and SSB. Both CW and SSB entries had some great DX contacts into the Pacific on most bands so the traditional modes are still very much alive for DX working.

Many congratulations to all our winners, some good DX worked across all four bands.

As always we are very grateful to Michael G7VJR from Club Log for making the CDXC awards programme possible every year.

CDXC HF Challenge 2022

After last year’s improved scores in the CDXC HF Challenge, this year the scores on all bands have improved again. The 2022 high score for Traditional Modes has increased from 125 DXCC’s in 2021 to 136 DXCC’s and the high score for MGMs has also increased from 168 DXCC’s to 185 DXCC’s. The improved conditions within Cycle 25 continue and the members in all areas have certainly benefited from these, the level of interest in the HF Challenge increased this year and competition was very evident from the start of the month, and many members posting their scores on the Club Log HF Challenge page and received conformations from LOTW.

Our many thanks to Club Log for their continuing support, without them the CDXC Challenges probably would not run,

In 2022 the traditional CW/SSB category, Norman 5B4AIF is awarded the Hinson Trophy based on his total of 136 DXCCs worked. Runners up were, in second place Tony M0IQD and third place Lionel G5LP.

In 2022 the MGM (Machine Generated Modes) category Norman 5B4AIF is awarded the Chairman’s Cup based on his total of 185 DXCCs worked up by 17 DXCC’s on 2021. Runners up were, in second place Steve PJ4DX and third place Robert G4TUK.

Individual Band salver winners were for 15M Norman 5B4AIF, 12M Andy M0NKR, 10M Norman 5B4AIF and 6M Kev G0CHE

Certificates of Merit will be awarded to M0IQD, PJ4DX, G5LP (X3), G4TUK, 5B4AIF (X2), LZ2HM, G3PXT and GM0OPS, An announcement will be made by the CDXC Committee as to when and where Trophies and salvers will be presented, while certificates will be e-mailed to winners shortly.

Well done to all entrants, great Challenge.

Congratulations to all the winners.
